Matt Vashlishan is a multi-woodwind instrumentalist from the Poconos of Pennsylvania. He holds a DMA in Saxophone Performance from the University of Miami, a MM from William Paterson University, and a BM from the Eastman School of Music. Matt is currently the Director of the University Jazz Ensemble at East Stroudsburg University, as well as the University’s Coordinator of the Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection. He is active as a sideman, most notably with David Liebman’s Expansions Quintet. Matt is the Director of the Water Gap Jazz Orchestra (previously Phil Woods’ COTA Festival Orchestra) and leads his own small groups that include Phil Markowitz, Ian Froman, Vic Juris, Jeff Hirshfield and others.
